Pre-Holiday Skin Prep: My Four-Week Framework

Stepping off a long-haul flight with radiant skin starts long before I reach the gate. In the month leading up to any trip, I follow a simple, evidence-based routine that keeps my complexion hydrated, smooth, and resilient—no spa required. Here’s exactly what I do.

 

1. Hydration, measured

 

I aim for 35 ml of water per kilogram of body weight each day and drink most of it before midday. Adding a pinch of mineral salt or an electrolyte powder helps that water stay inside the cells that keep my skin firm. Whenever I enjoy a coffee, I match it with the same volume of water to offset caffeine’s diuretic effect.

 

2. Gentle exfoliation for even tone

Dull, dead cells scatter light and mute my glow, so I introduce a mild chemical exfoliant—5–8 % glycolic acid or 2 % lactic acid—two evenings a week.

How I begin:

  1. Patch-test on my jawline.

  2. Apply a pea-sized layer to clean, dry skin, wait 10 minutes, then follow with a barrier-supportive moisturiser.

  3. If there’s no irritation, I move to three nights a week by Week 2.

I never pair high-strength acids with microneedling on the same day.

 

3. Microneedling to stimulate collagen

Once a week I use a 0.25–0.5 mm dermal roller at home. The micro-channels it creates prompt new collagen and elastin. If I book an in-clinic session (1.0–1.5 mm), I schedule it two weeks before departure to give any flaking time to resolve. After every use, I sanitise the device with 70 % isopropyl alcohol and replace it after ten sessions.
